High Carbon Steel Sharpening Stone

It was once common knowledge that one kept one's tools sharp and most people knew how to do so... after all, a sharpened tool edge cuts with less resistance making everything from pruning to harvesting much easier. Most cutting tools are sold with a sharpened edge, but not with the tools to keep them that way or with a blade that is easy to maintain.

This stone is specially designed to the be the size and shape with sharpening pruners in mind. With one angled side and one flat side, at 2.5 inches long it easily fits in your hand and can reach into the tight inner angle of the pruners that most other sharpeners can't reach.

Now, how to use it (after cleaning your cutting tool, of course):

Use water or oil to wet the stone- not both- and enough to slightly darken the stone. Don't let it dry during sharpening. Food grade mineral oil is just fine as an earth friendly oil.
Match the bevel angle of the cutting blade. This is key. Start at the back of the blade as flat as possible against the bevel. For a curved pruner, place your thumb on the flat side and index finger on the larger side. Make confident, steady strokes towards the tip of the blade focusing on matching the bevel angle during the whole stroke. As the blade is sharpened, ~5-10 strokes, the bevel will change from dull to shiny. Burrs or nicks should be removed during this process. The goal is to make the entire bevel of the blades shiny.
Flip the blades and using lighter strokes, remove any burrs from the flat side of the blade. Do not attempt to put another edge on the back side of the blade. Take a test cut, it should be a smooth clean cut without any stops or resistance during the cut.
For bypass blades, look at the counter blade for chips or burrs that could damage the cutting blade. Use the same process above to remove any chips or burrs.
