This made in Japan hand pruner is bigger and bulkier than the ARS pruners but still sharp and reasonably durable. We recommend you go with one of the other ARS hand pruners if you are looking for top quality blades and over all construction with a lighter profile for higher overall performance, and if you can afford pruners in the $40-$100 price range. But... 

We recommend these as a basic garden hand pruner if you want something sturdier and with more capacity than the ARS needlenose pruners at a price point below $40. These are good quality garden pruners that lack the bells and whistles that have been engineered into the ARS line of hand pruners (which come with additional cost). 

These garden pruners will be more than adequate and fit a spot many gardener's arsenal if, for example, you do not do a lot of hand pruning, or if you want to minimize the cost and risk of pruners that might get lost or borrowed and not returned. If you know you are going to set your pruners down outside and forget them for an extended period, if you are buying pruners for a vacation spot, if you lend your pruners out regularly to other gardeners who may not care for tools the way you do, or you want to keep pruners in a shared community garden shed then these pruners may be a great option and offer a very good overall value.
